Subscan Technology Overview

14 July 2011

Subscan Technology Ltd is the UK’s leading supplier of services aimed at the detection and avoidance of underground utilities and other hazards. Its experienced utility detection and ground penetrating radar teams provide full UK coverage from three offices in Rugby, Yeovil and Doncaster.
The diverse and demanding environments encountered within today’s utility and construction industries ensure that Subscan’s approach to the location of under-ground services is both flexible and compliant to clients’ individual requirements.
Subscan has 20 years’ experience in providing information on the location of underground utilities and other features in the following areas:
Highways: Before undertaking any ground works, non-invasive underground mapping for road and highway planning helps clients conform to “Best Practice under the New Road & Street Works” and avoid costly penalties, danger and excessive highway disruption.
Industrial: Many businesses have no records or knowledge of their underground infrastructure routes making it difficult to plan for maintenance and future development. Subscan Technology can provide precise data to enable compliance with IPPC regulations and ISO 14000.
Environmental: Subscan Technology has a wealth of experience in accurately detecting utilities in close proximity to required excavations by environmental projects. This to safely clears areas for boreholes and trial pits.
Petrochemical: Subscan is the UK’s leading and most experienced utility mapping company in the petrochemical sector having provided information at retail sites and refineries/depots. It has surveyed over 5000 sites in the UK for major oil companies, supermarkets, architects, consulting engineers and environmental companies. Subscan Technology provides a full utility mapping service for petrol station sites. This includes all mains services entering or crossing the site: electric, water, gas, drainage and telecom as well as the tank feeds, vents, offsets and gauge lines.
Brownfield: It has a proven track record on many large urban redevelopment projects. Subscan provides property developers, consulting engineers and building contractors with accurate information regarding the location of existing utilities and other underground hazards (eg boreholes, mine workings and voids) prior to excavation.
Subscan also offers in-house land, topographical and building surveys to produce accurate measured drawings that reflect the area and features surveyed. This is available as a stand alone item or as a package to complement its utility mapping and radar surveys. Many clients make use of desktop utility map finding, which collates all the relevant statutory documentation for any given site from information supplied by utility companies. This is compiled in both hard copy and as pdf downloads from the Subscan website. It provides an excellent first stage before a more detailed site survey is conducted.
